Preserving air quality is just as important in offshore industrial activities as it is onshore. Industry and regulators have established procedures and standards in this unique environment to ensure that air quality is not compromised. Offshore oil and gas extraction is subject to the same regulations as any industrial activity, including the requirements of the Clean Air Act.
As we continue to tap into our abundant offshore oil and gas resources industry and regulators are vigilant in keeping environmental impacts to a minimum. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) was given environmental oversight of offshore activities on federal lands in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. This includes implementing regulations, but also ensuring compliance with any other applicable legislation.
